While the town of Madison was founded in 1815, the property at 216 West Hunter St. was not built until around 1909. The original owner of the house was John Oscar Busick. He and his father, D.W., owned the only department store in town. John Oscar had the department store until 1934.
During the past 100 years, the house has only had a few owners. The property was sold in 1971 and shortly after in 1972 where it was kept until 1997. The current owners, Joey Fleming and Rick Thacker, purchased the property in 2005 when they chose to persue Rick's dream of opening a Bed and Breakfast. While both are natives of Ohio, they both loved the Carolinas and looked forward to moving someday. 216 West Hunter was one of the first homes that they looked at while searching for potential bed and breakfasts in the area. While they looked at many more, they always came back to this one. Nothing compared to the historic home and small North Carolina town of Madison.
The owners dedication to the house shines through; from its individualized room decorations, to the beautiful yards and pool, to the full breakfast offered daily. Staying at the HUNTER HOUSE is a truly memorable and fun experience.
The owners pride themselves in taking excellent care of their guests and making them feel at home from the first moment they step into the home and are greeted by the owners pet labs, Dante and Brady and cat, Jeager.
